Beta news

What I'm working on, what's broken, and what's fixed.

This page is where the beta happens in the open. I post here through the day — what I'm fixing, what's going out in the next version, what I've just broken. Every bug a tester reports gets a number and appears on the list below, so you can see whether the thing you hit is known, whether anyone else has hit it, and what I've done about it.

Reported bugs

Everything testers have sent in. Reporters are shortened to two letters — your full address is never published. If you've reported something and can't find it here, mail me; it means I've mislaid it.

Reporting a bug

Mail niall@sessionist.ie, or use the beta link on the Profile page in the app. The three things that help most: what page you were on, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. Your instrument and device are worth a line too. You'll get a reply with the bug's number, and you can follow it here.

I want the musical faults as much as the software bugs — ornamentation getting marked as a mistake, a setting nobody plays, a tempo that isn't a real tempo, terminology I've used wrong.

Joining the beta

Places are limited: 25 on iPhone/iPad, 25 on Android. Windows is open to everyone. I keep the mobile rounds small on purpose — I read every report myself and reply to every tester, and I can only do that properly for a couple of dozen people at a time. If a link says the beta is full, that's not a no — try again in a few days. I open the next places as soon as I've worked through the current round, usually within the week.

iPhone and iPad — TestFlight

Tap the link on the device you'll be testing on. If you don't have TestFlight yet, the link sends you there first — it's Apple's own app and it's free.

Android — Google Play

Join the testers group with the Google account you use on your phone, then install from Play as normal.

Windows — no waiting

The Windows build has no cap at all. If the mobile rounds are full and you don't fancy waiting, this is the whole app, today.

Contributing guide audio

If you're a strong player there's a second thing you can do. The play-along backing is MIDI at the moment and it should be real players. Get a clean run in the app and it will offer to submit that take as a guide for other people learning the tune — moderated before it goes anywhere, credited to you if it's accepted, and never uploaded unless you choose to.

Your recording is never altered: no pitch correction, no time-stretching, no AI-generated sound, and nothing trained on your playing. The privacy policy has the full detail.
