Deleting your account and data
Last updated: 21 June 2026
This page explains how to permanently delete your Sessionist account and the data we hold for you, what is removed, what is kept (and why), and how long it takes. It applies to the Sessionist app on Windows, Android and iOS. For the wider data-protection picture, see our Privacy Policy.
1. In one sentence
You can delete your Sessionist account at any time from inside the app. We permanently remove your account record and personal data from live systems within 7 days, and encrypted backups are purged within 30 days after that.
2. Anonymous (KidAnon) use — nothing on our side to delete
If you use Sessionist anonymously — you tapped “I’m a kid! I don’t have time for this!” and never registered — nothing about you has ever left your device. There is no account on our servers, so there is nothing for us to delete. To remove the data held on your device — your profile, settings and recordings — uninstall the app; that deletes every file Sessionist has saved on the device.
Under-16s on Sessionist are always in this mode. If we become aware that a registered (16+) account in fact belongs to someone under 16, we delete it on the same terms set out below, and we send a notice to the registered email.
3. How to delete your account
- In the app (preferred). Open Sessionist → Settings → Profile → Delete my account. You will be asked to re-enter your password (or re-sign in with Apple / Google) to confirm it is you, then shown your Contribution Manifest (section 4), then asked to confirm. Deletion starts immediately.
- By email. Email privacy@sessionist.ie from the address you registered with, subject “Delete my account”. We may write back to ask a short identity-confirming question before we act, and we respond and complete within one month.
- From the web. If you have uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, use the email path above. We accept deletion requests by email from the registered address even if you no longer have the app installed.
4. Your Contribution Manifest — delete or donate
Sessionist keeps a per-user manifest of every asset you have contributed for others to see — community guides, competition entries, shared playlists, and leaderboard entries. You can view it at any time in Settings → Profile → My Contributions. At deletion time we show it to you and ask, for each item (or all at once):
- Delete (default) — the item is removed from Sessionist and from anywhere it appears for other users.
- Donate to the User Group (only available if you are 16 or older) — ownership of the item transfers to the User Group, an independent body that governs assets donated by departing Sessionist users. Donated items remain visible in Sessionist; your name is removed and the item is credited to “User Group”. Donation is final: once your account closes, the item is no longer yours and cannot be retrieved.
Under-16s cannot donate; their contributions are always deleted at account close. Items that exist only inside your own account — your practice and scoring history, your saved recordings (perfs), your repertoire, your level and points, and any playlists you have not shared — are never on the manifest: they are always deleted in full.
5. What gets deleted
When you confirm deletion, the following is removed within 7 days:
- Your account in Firebase (sign-in identity) and your player in Unity Gaming Services.
- Your email, display name, player ID, year of birth, and your password hash.
- All your learning data: tunes played, scores, practice history, repertoire, instruments, recently-played tunes, your settings (SIDS), level and points.
- All your community data stored against your account: friends list, in-app notifications, leaderboard entries.
- Your saved recordings held on Sessionist servers. Recordings stored only on your own device are removed when you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Every contributed asset you chose Delete for; the display name on every asset you chose Donate for.
6. What we keep, and why
- Donation / financial records related to any Patreon support you sent us — kept as long as Irish tax and accounting law requires (typically up to six years). These records contain the minimum required for legal compliance and are not used for any other purpose.
- Encrypted backups — your data lingers in encrypted backups until they are overwritten in the normal rotation, which completes within 30 days of your account being deleted from live systems. While in backups the data is access-restricted and is only ever used to recover from a system failure.
- Server logs containing IP addresses or device identifiers — kept by our hosting and service providers for 30 days for security and abuse-prevention, then deleted on their normal rotation.
- Anonymised aggregates — counts and statistics that cannot be linked back to you (for example “X people practised this tune today”) may be retained indefinitely. These contain no personal data.
7. Patreon, separately
If you support Sessionist on Patreon, your relationship with Patreon is governed by Patreon’s own privacy policy. Deleting your Sessionist account removes the limited supporter information we receive from Patreon (name, tier) from our records; it does not end your support on Patreon. To stop supporting us, please also visit your Patreon account.
8. Subscriptions
Sessionist has no paid subscriptions. There is nothing to cancel before deleting your account.
9. Timing summary
- Grace / cancellation window after you confirm — none. Deletion is final at the moment you confirm in the app.
- Removal from live Firebase + Unity Gaming Services — within 7 days.
- Removal from encrypted backups — within 30 days.
- We respond to an emailed request — within one month.
When deletion is complete, we send a one-line confirmation email to the address that was registered.
10. If something goes wrong
If a deletion cannot complete in one go — for example, a network error mid-way — your account is marked deletion-in-progress on our servers and we finish the work the next time our systems can reach the affected service. The deletion is not reversible once marked: even partially-purged accounts are treated as closed.
11. Re-registration
You can register a new Sessionist account using the same email after deletion. The new account is fresh: it carries no data and no link to the deleted one.
12. Your wider data-protection rights
Deletion is one of several rights you have under the GDPR. You can also request access, correction, restriction or portability of your data, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. The route is the same: use the in-app controls or email privacy@sessionist.ie. You can also complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission — dataprotection.ie, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28.
